End of season inscape

To get rid of the worn-down
mentality for a turnover,
a belly-up and filet of the year,
I considered flaying snow
down to the flake to exact its shape.

The sun went a little too far this time.

We will skate, see the river to its end.
We will fasten, skim the surface, and stay.

Hailing from the coast of Maine, H. K. Talbert is an English major at Yale and the author of a collection of environmental poetry and oil paintings. Talbert's poems can be found in Cider Press Review and Prudence Dispatch as well as numerous anthologies from the Telling Room.
